From the Director's Desk

Dear Colleagues and Partners,

May is another exciting month for Ignite! We are thrilled to announce that we are in the process of moving into a new center-based location in Milwaukee. Opening up a bigger center in Milwaukee has been a dream of ours for quite some time and we are beyond excited to transition into this new 12,000 square foot center space. It is equipped with all of the space we need, from classrooms, large group spaces, a gross motor area, a lunch room, a school readiness classroom space, and so much more!

Warm regards,

Becca Prinsen

Director of Autism Services, Ignite Child Development Services

Industry Updates

Latest Research and Developments in ABA

  • Cultural Responsiveness in ABA: There's been increased focus on developing culturally responsive assessment and intervention practices, with new publications offering frameworks for practitioners. This research has recommended the following adaptions be made to treatment in order to provide the best quality of care:

    • Goal Selection Partnerships: Collaboratively selecting targets that respect cultural values and priorities

    • Modified Teaching Procedures: Adapting instructional methods to align with cultural learning styles

    • Family System Integration: Incorporating extended family members into intervention when culturally appropriate

    • Culturally Relevant Materials: Using culturally representative and familiar materials in teaching protocols

  • Trauma-Informed ABA: Emerging research on adapting ABA practices to be trauma-sensitive, particularly important for clients with adverse childhood experiences. Recent research on outcome data suggests that trauma-informed ABA approaches may lead to reduced problem behavior intensity, faster skill acquisition, and improved client well-being measures compared to traditional ABA approaches for clients with trauma histories.
