The Power of Three is a hands-on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum designed to support kindergarten through 5th grade students with empowering their understanding of the brain, and how to make the best choices possible.
OVERVIEW
The Power of Three “friends” share successes and struggles they have with kindergarten through 2nd grade students. Upper elementary students begin to develop an understanding beyond themselves and see the impact of their choices on their classmates and community. Each grade level has unique tier I lessons that are “cluster taught” early in the school year, ensuring that all students have explicit instruction on the five social emotional learning (SEL) CASEL competencies. For students that are struggling, twenty-five additional tier II SEL intervention lessons are ready to go for support.
WHY THE POWER OF THREE?
The Power of Three focuses on implementing SEL Tier I instruction, along with providing school staff with a tool that will address a range of behaviors before, during, and after they occur. What makes The Power of Three different from other SEL curricula is the additional assistance it provides to your intervention team with creating Tier 2 Intervention Plans. Here's how we stand out:

THE POWER OF THREE
CEU INFORMATION:
TOOLS TO IMPLEMENT TIER 1
The Power of Three is centered around SELTier I instruction for all students in their general education classroom, “cluster taught” early in the school year, ensuring every student receive explicit instruction on the five CASEL social emotional learning competencies.
Kindergarten and 1st grade students are introduced to the SEL competencies through The Power of Three “friends”, and learn how the characters struggle and succeed.
Students in 2nd-3rd grade continue to go deeper into the SEL CASEL competencies, with connections to children’s literature.
Upper elementary students begin to understand the world beyond themselves, and have an opportunity to make a difference in their community by applying SEL skills through the use of the Power of Three curriculum.
TOOLS TO IMPLEMENT TIER 2
Students identified through DESSA assessments as potentially benefiting from additional support for social emotional learning after tier I instruction, will receive hands-on intervention support 3-5 times per week for approximately 7-9 weeks, from an intervention teacher. Lessons focus on either verbal or physical behaviors and engage students by having them participate in activities such as team building, art therapy lessons, or role playing. All lessons are focused on using skills and strategies which help them remain in their “thinking brain” resulting in making good choices. When students use their “thinking brain” they are better equipped to make positive decisions for themselves and their school community. By completing these intervention lessons with struggling students, there is a decrease in behavior incidents, which results in a decrease of referrals for special education evaluations.
JUMP START PROGRAM
The Power of Three - Jump Start is designed to support school staff with tier II interventions for students struggling with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills. The critical learning skills from individual grade level curriculums (tier I) and the intervention lessons (tier II) have been condensed and modified to create Jump Start.
With Jump Start, the intervention teacher has all they need to support small groups of students with their SEL skills. Introductory lessons have been banded together by grade level:
-
Kindergarten and 1st grade students combined for a total of 16 introductory lessons
-
2nd and 3rd grade students combined for a total of 14 introductory lessons
-
4th and 5th grade students combined for a total of 8 introductory lessons
